TUV Rheinland Arabia - a subsidiary of TUV Rheinland Group - the global provider of technical, safety and certification services, expands its worldwide capabilities today by opening fully equipped Test Centre consisting of  laboratories for testing the safety of automotive spare parts and electrical appliances.

The new Test Centre of TUV Rheinland Arabia is strategically located in the south of the port city of Jeddah which is famously known as a hub for import of consumer goods in KSA.

Press briefing for the new lab was held at Park Hyatt, Jeddah. In the presence of Secretary General of GCC Standardization Organization (GSO), H.E. Mr. Nabil Ameen Molla, representatives from Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI), Saudi Customs and Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), in addition to private sectors delegates, and media members were invited to attend the press briefing.

As Jeddah is the largest port in Saudi Arabia & well-positioned to serve the need of importers and exporters of different sectors such as automotive, electrical products, IT, telecom, and other businesses, therefore, TUV Rheinland decided to open this Test Center in Jeddah to serve the largest port.

The new 3600 m2 lab is located in Al Khomra, South Jeddah.  Currently, the scope of work in the lab concentrates on testing the safety of motor vehicle brake pads and oil filters, home appliances, office equipment, computers, audio video equipment, lighting and telecommunication equipment.

In cooperation with Ministry of Commerce and Industry and in coordination with Saudi Customs, the lab checks the samples that have been withdrawn from imported shipments to the Kingdom before releasing it in the market. The objective of this testing is to assure the safety of products by complying with the requirements of Saudi Standards.

TÜV Rheinland’s technical experts have solid experience in international and local product safety regulations and technical standards. TUV Rheinland believes that as Saudi Arabia has an excellent geographic location and the largest economy in the region with fastest consumer growth, therefore the test center will enable TUV Rheinland to serve the local as well as regional markets.

For our customers here in Saudi Arabia it is another opportunity to expand their business, moreover, the opening of this Test Centre is another important step towards the international growth of our company’’, said Mr. Stephen Schmitt, Chief International Officer, Member of Executive Board of Management, TÜV Rheinland AG.

‘’There is a vast scope and potential for car parts and electrical products testing in Saudi Arabia and the establishment of our laboratory will provide independent testing services so that the end consumers can rely on products tested by TUV Rheinland Arabia’’, further explained by  Mr. Andreas Hoefer, Chief Regional Officer of TUV Rheinland for India-Middle East-Africa region.

The automotive spare parts testing laboratory will be the first accredited testing center in the GCC Region. This milestone wouldn’t be reached without the guidance and support of MOCI, Saudi Customs and SASO. We are sure that the current well-coordinated team work of MOCI, Saudi Custom and SASO will achieve the ultimate goal of consumer safety.

The purpose of investing in Saudi Arabia is to strengthen the market position of TÜV Rheinland as a leading service provider in product testing and certification in this region.

As Saudi Arabia’s automotive imports are forecast to grow at a CAGR of 9.6 percent over the next 4 years, reaching over one million vehicles by 2015. This growth demands resources for ensuring the safety of the vehicles as well as the spare parts for these vehicles. Thus TUV Rheinland Arabia Automotive Spare Parts laboratory will play a vital role in ensuring the road safety.

TUV Rheinland Arabia Electrical Laboratory works in close collaboration with government authorities including Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), Saudi Customs, and Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) to test and ensure that the imported and local products are safe of good quality and comply with approved standards and regulations in Saudi Arabia.
